The Beijing Channel Company (BCC) is the feeder system for our new College of Education Teacher Education Chinese Language Certification Program. What it allows us to do as the Confucius Institute, is to prep certificate candidates before actually becoming MSU students and teachers.
Students in the BCC program go through two months of intense courses with CI staff about teaching, technology and culture in American schools. As part of the process, the students spend four sessions with myself learning about video acquisition, video editing and creating presentations, among other technology topics. The whole process is managed and facilitated through the CIMSU Adobe Acrobat Connect system, which has worked great, getting all the parties together in a virtual collaborative space. By the time the students are taking classes officially at MSU, they've been prepared to be productive post graduate college students in the U.S. and have had access to the entire gamut of CIMSU resources in teacher professional development, technology and culture.
